Disassembly
Further disassembly
Some photos of the continued disassembly process
The backside of the driver side fender. You can tell it's original by the condition.
The backside of the passender fender. You can tell it's not original to the car by the condition. Compare it to the photo of the driver side fender above. You'll notice it's a lot "cleaner."
A/C unit removed. (Note to self: install before the engine goes back in! LOL)
Brake booster removed. (Note to self: another piece to install before the engine goes back in!)
Look at that cute little carburetor! Gonna replace it with a 4 barrel for sure!
Picture is a little washed out. This is the driver side radiator support and bracket. Notice there's some rust on this side, but not a lot. Especially down at the subframe to support bracket.
You'll notice there's more rust over on the passenger side radiator support and bracket. I had to cut those lower two subframe bolts out they were so bad. But surprisingly, that one on the top came off. Go figure.

What's she really look like?
Really looks pretty good! Most of the "demo" has been done, so now it's a matter of building up from here.

She's home!
Free from the blue tarp of shame
This is what we're starting with. Really solid overall and pretty straight. Only really bad spot of rust found so far is the lower left corner of the windshield by the VIN tag - a typical spot on 2nd generation (1970-1981) F bodies (Camaros and Firebirds).
The cowl tag (aka trim, body or Fisher tag) shows this car's originally build options.
"779" is for the "Covert" (light tan) interior. "57" is for a "Golden Brown" exterior.
"T" for a "Covert" vinyl top.
"12A" shows it was built the first week of December 1971.
(Exactly two years before I was born! I thought that was cool!)
"A51" shows it had non-reclining front bucket seats.
That's seam sealer in the rivet holes. Common for cars built in Van Nuys, rare for Norwood.
It currently has the "split bumper" bumperettes. That feature was original to the cars optioned with the RS package. Since this is not an RS car, (unless I have a SERIOUS change of heart, I'm going to leave the "standard" nose on it and put on a full bumper.
No, it did not have a spoiler package from the factory. Yes, I will be adding one!
It was smacked in the right front at some point. (Maybe even twice by the look of the current fender.) The fender emblems say "Rally Sport 400" which is not original to the car.
Factory 307 V8. Gotta confirm matching numbers, though. You might not be able to see it on the passenger side firewall, but this car came with factory air. (A MUST have for the south!)
Remember that "Golden Brown" exterior paint code? Yeah. The inside of the doors and the door jambs tell a different story. That's "Placer Gold" which is code "53." So either the cowl tag was replaced or the car was painted wrong at the factory. (If the door jambs didn't match, then that would mean the doors had been replaced.)
Yes! That's a column shift! I knew I didn't want a manual transmission (too much traffic around here). I had ideas for some custom work to the center console, which meant a column shift would be perfect. I was stoked to find this! Most get switched to the floor...
These seats can't be original to the car since they're black. But hey! At least it has seats! Those things can be hard to find! (That's the dash laying in the back seat.) I'm thinking of finding a donor seat back for the rear and hacking it up to do something custom back there. I'm also thinking I may try and find a way to put shoulder belts in the rear.
